6 Tips for Cruising with Us During the Chicago Air and Water Show

The Chicago Air and Water Show is a spectacular annual event that fills the Chicago sky each August with thrilling performances. Even if you haven’t seen the show in the past, if you’ve been in the city then chances are you’ve heard it! And there’s no better way to enjoy the spectacle than from the comfort of one of our Electric Boats. Read on for our 6 tips to make the most of your Electric Boat rental experience during this thrilling event.

1. Location is key! For the best views of the show, make sure to reserve your cruise at one of our downtown locations. That includes Marina City, Water Plaza, or City Winery. These locations provide prime viewing spots from the Main Branch of the Chicago River and are a short cruise from the Locks area, where the River meets Lake Michigan. Our Rockwell on the River location is too far north to catch the full spectacle.

2. Timing is everything! The Air and Water Show runs on Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 am to 3 pm, with a bonus Rehearsal Day on Friday around roughly the same time. Book your cruise within this timeframe to ensure you catch all the action.

3. Pick the right boat. Choose a boat that offers excellent sky visibility to get the most out of your viewing experience. Lucky for you, our Retro Boats, Pontoons, and 22′ Luxury Duffy with its spacious back seating are perfect options for enjoying aerial stunts without obstruction.

4. Prepare for the elements. Spending a few hours on the water can be a delightful experience, but it’s important to protect yourself from the sun—especially if you’re on one of the open-air boats we highlighted above. Don’t forget to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and hats to stay comfortable and protected from the sun’s rays.

5. Stock your boat. All of our boats are BYOB and offer comfortable seating and large communal tables. Make sure to stock your boat with snacks and beverages (don’t forget water!) to keep everyone satiated and hydrated during the show.

6. Prepare for crowds and excitement. The Air and Water Show attracts a large number of spectators. Be prepared for some bustling activity on the River and around the show areas. Keep this in mind when you’re planning transportation and allow plenty of time to manage the other spectators.,
